Virtual Switch (Vswitch)

Purpose: bridge the VM to physical network

Basically turn a virtual machine into a switch

Virtual switching is a concept of enabling Network Switch for virtual machine.

In the past these machine needs to connect to a physical switch (Network Switch). Now we can have a virtual switch to handle the network between these VM.

However, to connect to the internet, you need at least a Physical switch.

Some of the common virtual switch:

• Open vSwitch (suitable for local run and light weight)
  • Open vSwitch can also run in a machine without being a container to be the virtual switch for that machine. Normally used in Virtual Machine
• Arista cEOS
• Hyper V virtual switch
