Layer 7 protocol use to manage and monitor network devices such as routers, servers and printers, and other devices connect to IP network.
Architecture
SNMP Manager
Oversees and controls network device using SNMP. Tasks:
- Query devices
- Receive alerts
- Manages configurations
- Analyse data
SNMP Agent:
Software runs on network device (router, switch, etc). Tasks:
- Collects data
- Respond to requests
- Send notifications: alert SNMP manager about stuff
