Network Topology

Referto the way data flow in the network.

Paradigm to connect Network Link and Network Node

Bus topology

All Network Node connect to a Center Network Link

Pros:

  • Easy to setup with small number of devices
    Cons:
  • In the case of damage, it will damage the whole network
    Use case:
  • Small number of devices

Star topology

Pasted image 20240424223641.png

All Network Node link to a center Network Node.

Pros:

  • More robust
  • Easy to troubleshoot
    Cons:
  • If the central node fails then the complete network is damaged
    Use case:
  • Home or office network

Ring topology

Each Network Node is connect to 2 Network Node

Pros:

  • Nothing
    Cons:
  • If one node damage, it damages the whole network
    Use case:
  • Rarely use as it's hard to install and manage

Mesh topology

1 Network Node connects to many Network Node

Pros:

  • Robust
    Cons:
  • Difficult management
    Use case:
  • Rarely use

Tree Topology

Similar to Star topology but in tree structure

Pros:

  • Nothing
    Cons:
  • If a node fails then everything fails
    Use case:
  • Rarely use
